September Is the Perfect Time to Start or Reset Your Medical Coding Journey

September often feels like a fresh start. Summer is ending, routines are coming back, and many people begin thinking seriously about their career goals before the year ends.

If medical coding has been on your mind, this is a great time to ask yourself one honest question: Am I just thinking about starting, or am I ready to take action?

Whether you are brand new to medical coding, currently studying for the CPC exam, or already certified but unsure what to do next, this season is a great opportunity to get focused, create a plan, and move forward with confidence.

At Cohens Coding & Consulting, our goal is to help aspiring and newly certified coders train, certify, and elevate their medical coding careers with structure, education, and support.

Medical Coding Is More Than Looking Up Codes

One of the biggest misconceptions about medical coding is that coders simply look up codes in a book or software system.

Medical coding requires critical thinking, attention to detail, knowledge of guidelines, and the ability to understand medical documentation. Coders must understand medical terminology, anatomy, ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, modifiers, documentation requirements, and how to apply coding guidelines correctly.

That is why proper training matters. If you are serious about becoming a medical coder, you need more than random videos and scattered notes. You need structure, practice, support, and a clear path forward.

For Beginners: Start With CPC Training

If you are new to medical coding, your first step is getting the right foundation.

Our CPC training programs are designed for students who want to prepare for certification while learning the core concepts of medical coding. Students receive structured training, instructor support, weekly tutoring, and guidance throughout the learning process.

CPC training is a great fit for:

Career changers

Healthcare professionals wanting to expand their skills

Individuals interested in administrative healthcare careers

Students who want flexible online learning

People who need support while preparing for certification

At Cohens Coding & Consulting, classes start daily, so you do not have to wait for a traditional semester to begin.

For Current Students: Get Exam Ready With the CPC Exam Prep Lab

Completing your CPC training is an accomplishment, but completing training and feeling ready for exam day are two different things.

Many students finish their coursework and still feel unsure about CPT code navigation, ICD-10-CM guidelines, modifiers, case scenario questions, time management, eliminating incorrect answers, and understanding rationales.

That is why we created the CPC Exam Prep Lab.

During the Lab, students focus on review, practice questions, rationale breakdowns, exam strategy, and areas that commonly cause confusion.

Free Resource: Top 5 CPC Exam Mistakes

To help CPC students prepare with more confidence, we created a free guide: Top 5 CPC Exam Mistakes.

This resource highlights common mistakes students make while preparing for the CPC exam, including relying too much on memorization, skipping guidelines, not practicing enough case scenarios, poor time management, and studying without a plan.

Use this guide as a reminder that CPC exam preparation should be intentional, structured, and focused.

For Certified Coders: Elevate Your Career Strategy

Passing the CPC exam is a major milestone, but certification is not the end of the journey.

Many newly certified coders find themselves asking: I passed the CPC exam... now what? That is where career development becomes important.

Elevate360 is our career coaching program designed to help aspiring and newly certified coders gain clarity, confidence, and direction as they move forward in the medical coding industry.
